I grew up in Humboldt, Iowa and graduated from Humboldt Senior High in 1993.  I attended Teikyo Westmar University in LeMars, Iowa from 1993 to 1996, when I moved back to Humboldt due to events that led to the school's closing.  After taking a few years off from school, I graduated from Buena Vista University in 2000, with a bachelors degree in literature with a minor in psychology.

I married Melinda Mefferd, from Pomeroy, in August 1998; and we lived in Humboldt.  We moved to Rolfe, Iowa in 2004 and have three children:, Zane, Ian, and Reagan.

It didn't take long for me to get involved in the community.  I joined the Rolfe ambulance, as a driver in January 2005 and became an EMT in June of 2012.  I have coached tee-ball, baseball, and soccer for the kids rec programs.  I was part of a volunteer group that made improvements to the baseball field and helped in the purchase of new equipment.  Also, I helped with the coordination and installment of the lights at the rodeo arena.

I have worked at Ag Parts in Humboldt building tractor clutches and clutch discs since 2001.  I enjoy spending time with my kids, riding my Harley, and going to Kansas City to watch Chiefs games.
